“Sport has the power to change the world… it has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to young people in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair. It is more powerful than government in breaking down racial barriers.”
The European Sports Christian Union is a partnership of churches, sports mission agencies and individuals that together want to see every sports person in Europe become a Christ follower and every community in Europe impacted through sport for Christ.
There are three words used at the start of the race that help describe what the ECSU does:
Multiply disciple making
The ECSU wants to cast the vision of making disciples in sport and play in each of the 48 countries in the European movement. It seeks to do this by praying for each other, building partnerships and helping intitiate and develop sports mission in each of these countries.
Train disciple making
The ECSU wants to train people to make disciples in sport and play by equipping leaders to deliver sports mission, starting with the 618 cities over 100.000 and growing to impact every city and community. It seeks to do this by holding ReadySetGO trainings in countries and cities, developing young leaders and hosting networking conferences.
Deliver disciple making
The ECSU wants to see GO strategies used across Europe to make disciples in sport and play. It wants to create opportunities for and support sustainable and locally driven programmes.
